  1. This is an outstanding album, especially with the always interesting rhythm section. Coltrane's backing musicians always had an inventive way of providing a hypnotic foundation for him to improvise by, without being boring or distracting. Fortunately, Mr. Coltrane holds back from his "sheets of sound" style that became his preferred way to play/5(25).
  2. (2-LP set)(RPM) Recorded over the course of three months in , Coltrane was John Coltrane's third album for Impulse, but his first for the label devoted entirely to his regular working group. 5. Coltrane’s back with a self-titled album featuring the same quartet that led his album Africa/Brass. Notably, the track Tunji was written in dedication of drummer Babatunde Olatunji, who also gets a mention in an upcoming album by Bob Dylan Like the cover of the album (oh isn’t it pretty), this oozes sophistication.
